St. Paul Church is part of the United Church of Christ, a denomination formed in 1957 through the merger of the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches. The United Church of Christ has nearly 2 million members across more than 6,000 congregations in the United States.
You may recognize the United Church of Christ from various institutions associated with it, such as Deaconess Hospital, the Evangelical Children’s Home, the Emmaus Home, Eden Seminary, Drury College, and others.
Our local church was established in 1859 by a group of German Protestants. Today, St. Paul United Church of Christ honors the traditions of those who have served before us while also interpreting our faith in new and dynamic ways. We were instrumental in founding the Old Monroe Senior Housing, and we continue to operate a food pantry and provide emergency funding for those in need.
Above all, St. Paul is a welcoming church—open to the Spirit of the Lord, ready to receive and share God’s love, and welcoming to all.
